Selfie

Taking the portrait is always the struggle between the subject and the photographer. Subject wants to show the best for him/her (and the same time fake ) face, whereas the photographer wants to catch the true (in his imagination) face. Usually the porter is a mixture of these behaviours. So, I decided to give the opportunity to my subjects to show as much of the mask they put on, as possible.
I have pictured 70 politicians - members of the European Parliament during recent months. I set up a studio in the corridors of the EP headquarters and asked the most visually distinctive EU politicians to pose in front of my large format camera. I told them that I was searching for the moment when they show 100% of the public (not the private) face. I wanted to see the body language of each politician and wanted to picture the moment when they play the role of a public person. Politicians who posed for me had a cable release in their hands and they could decide when the picture is taken. Every person had only one chance to shoot the selfie.
